Intuitive Thoughts from Teresa

This week we are getting a respite from the cold sting of a predicted cold and snowy impending winter. Here’s a big YES to Indian Summer. We live at 8300 feet, in a small mountain town, so the big topic of conversation around here is not pumpkin carving but wood. Gathering it, stacking it and in some cases continued discussion about where to still obtain it.

Wood represents our homes need for fuel. Now is great time to assess our stores for the impending winter and to prepare for the colder, snowier inside time–for all parts of ourselves–body, mind and spirit.

I have a reputation as  “networking queen.” In the spirit of cooperation and sharing, you will notice that I have added a networking corner in order to spread the word about what colleagues are offering both locally and nationally.

Enjoy!

Living Intuitive Observations

PRE-EMPTING OVERWHELM

Yesterday, I made reservations for 3 different holiday events.

Part of me was thinking, boy am I getting too far ahead, only to learn that I was making these reservations in the nick of time.

As I looked at my date book for the next two months, I began to feel how full it was already!  I then decided to look at my November and December calendar with an holistic overview. I realized that I had 2 choices. One was to start to feeling overwhelmed and overbooked! The second was to plan ahead, respond, and to prepare for how I could take care of myself in the midst of all the future activity.

So, I chose to go through my book again with fresh eyes. I began to block out some at home quiet fill me up times, (also known around here as going into my crab shell). Then I planned a quiet, relaxing, very low key hot springs get away for just my husband and me, thereby creating a pause time away from all of the action at home.

I invite you to think about assessing your holiday season activities and prune them by using some of these tools for yourself. Give yourself permission to create the time and space for yourself and your family to relax and to re–nourish. Biology of Belief Book Cover

This week I have finally read Bruce Lipton’s Biology of Belief and am now listening to his CD set, The Wisdom of Your Cells.

Bruce’s take away message is that the environment we nourish our cells with affects how our DNA is expressed and our subsequent health.

Our thoughts and beliefs are how we feed our internal environment.

That is how on a very simple cellular level our inner selves create our outside environment. Our inside self creates our outside world and our outside world affects our inside cells.Wisdom of Your Cells CD Cover

I am noticing that many of my clients’ first and second charkas are in a place of disquiet, unrest, fear, and anger resulting from the recent activities of the stock market. Or, as some people are referring to it, the ”shock market.”

Literally, our first chakra–where we feel safe and rooted, and the second from where we create from, are feeling shocked by our cultural environment of loss, lack and fear.

These clients have been experiencing this lack and fear, even though their current day-to-day life and well being has not been impacted. My advice to these clients has been to ignore their monthly stock statement. Don’t even open them up.

Remember, that this is only a moment in time, and if you do not need to tap into those resources in the next few months then don’t sap your life force and sense of well being by reading about how much they have dropped. At some point, they will go back up.

Instead, it is time to get out a piece of paper and write down and re-affirm all that is working well in your life. Focus on the here and now. Excavate the gratitude and enjoyment spots and build on them.

I shared this insight with a financial ”wealth” advisor at a party this past weekend.  He agreed with me, and added that he is telling his clients to call up a friend they treasure and share some time with them.

Living Intuitive Meditation Tool

I am blessed to live somewhere where I am exposed to the big vistas of sky and the immense Rocky Mountains.

For me these daily views help me to keep my perspective and connection to spirit and knowing that all is well.

This week look for your mountain vistas- what in your life and environment helps you to feel safe, secure, and  knowing that you are connected to source and live in the flow.

The other day while driving down the mountain with soaking in the stunning views  an oldie but goodie came up on the radio: “Part of the Plan” by the late great Dan Fogelberg

When I was a college student, I derived inspiration from this song.

Once again the lyrics have been playing in my head since hearing the song.  Most especially the closing line continues to resonate:

“But all of the answers you seek Can be found
In the dreams that you dream On the way”

Dan Folgerberg Souvenirs

Souvenirs MP3 Download. This album begins with “Part of the Plan,” a song that was an early hit for Fogelberg

Part of the Plan
I have these moments
All steady and strong
I’m feeling so holy and humble
The next thing I know
I’m all worried and weak
And I feel myself
Starting to crumble.

The meanings get lost
And the teachings get tossed
And you don’t know what you’re
Going to do next.
You wait for the sun
But it never quite comes
Some kind of message comes
Through to you.
Some kind of message comes through.

And it says to you…

ChorusTelluride Colorado
Love when you can
Cry when you have to…
Be who you must
That’s a part of the plan
Await your arrival
With simple survival
And one day we’ll all understand…

I had a woman
Who gave me her soul
But I wasn’t ready to
Take it.
Her heart was so fragile
And heavy to hold
And I was afraid I might
Break it.

Your conscience awakes
And you see your mistakes
And you wish someone
Would buy your confessions.
The days miss their mark
And the night gets so dark
And some kind of message
Comes through to you
Some kind of message
Shoots through —

Chorus
There is no eden or
Heavenly gates
That you’re gonna make it to
One day
But all of the answers you seek
Can be found
In the dreams that you dream
On the way.

Historic Birth Summit To Be Held In Chicago – To make informed decisions, expectant parents need evidence-based information. November 8, a historic group of birth professional will meet to counter recent non-research based proclamations.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASsE

PRLog (Press Release)Oct 14, 2008 – Nurses, physicians, midwives, childbirth educators, doulas and lactation consultants will be meeting November 8 at the O’Hare Hilton in Chicago, the home town of the American Medical Association.

This historical summit, called in response to the ACOG/AMA joint proclamation (resolution 205 A-08), will set the evidence-based record straight regarding midwifery care and childbirth in hospital settings in the US.  According to the proclamation that sited no research or medical evidence studies, the ACOG/AMA stated that in their opinion our American Medical Association supports the recent American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) statement that “the safest setting for labor, delivery, and the immediate post-partum period is in the hospital, or a birthing center within a hospital complex, that meets standards jointly outlined by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and ACOG, or in a freestanding birthing center that meets the standards of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, The Joint Commission, or the American Association of Birth Centers”.

Representatives from the American College of Nurse Midwives, Lamaze International, the International Childbirth Education Association, the Midwives Alliance of North America, Waterbirth International and others will be in attendance.

“The proclamation ignores the myriad of evidence that consistently shows that homebirth is safe for low-risk women,” states Summit coordinator Connie Livingston.  “Likewise, it ignores fact that there is no evidence showing that hospital-based births have better outcomes for low risk mothers.  The United States ranks pitifully low on the list of countries as far as neonatal mortality/morbidity and ranks 41st in maternal deaths among all nations on the planet.  The impact of birth interventions is directly related to the unbelievable lack of breastfeeding in our society as well.”

Since the proclamation in the summer, physicians and other practitioners have been asking for the reasoning behind the AMA/ACOG proclamation.  So far, none has been given.

A joint evidence-based announcement will be made pointing out the dangerous and inaccurate nature of the AMA/ACOG proclamation and the impact that such a proclamation, if enacted, would have on an expectant mother’s right to choose her caregiver and place to give birth to her baby.###

APPPAH Conference – Teresa will be presenting on Sunday of this conference. We invite you to a conference that explores the miracle of birth through bringing together the depth of ancient wisdom and the exciting innovations of modern science.

What will this conference offer you?

    • Evidence demonstrating the myriad ways that mother-centered birthing supports the family, contrasted with the typical U.S. medicalized birth.
    • Discoveries about the lifelong effect of the stress, violence or peacefulness of pregnancy and birth–our first contact with life on earth.
    • Simple evidence-based approaches to the pregnancy and birth experience, in preparation and after, that promote the full potential of each person–baby, mother and father.

This international conference addresses child & maternal health, ecology, cultural diversity, transpersonal awareness, and more.  It will provide a forum for body/mind/spirit integration, theoretically and experientially.

We invite you to join us April 24-27, 2009 at spectacular Asilomar by the Sea for the 14th International Congress of the Association for Pre- & Perinatal Psychology and Health.

Continuing Education Units are being provided by PER for mental health professionals and by ACOG for nurses, midwives, doulas & physicians.
